Brief Encounters With Musical Stars
by Dulcy Brightman

Upon viewing the CBS-TV production of The Grammys on February 15, 2016, I am reminded of a couple of encounters with well-known musical artists when I was still actively producing Reel People Review in New York City, many years ago. Once, while going through the JFK Airport in New York, with my various camera bags that spelled out names of radio stations, television companies, and movie companies, I had a long stare from none other than...

Dream Beach

Many of us can remember when we were young and walking with our brothers or sisters on a beach in the summertime.

Here is a happy scene of a big sister, and little brother on a Santa Barbara beach. Their parents have released some colorful balloons that float in the air above them. This opportunity to go to a wonderful beach is due to more good weather in Southern California than any other place in America. People are able to go from the mountains down to the beach. It's the best of both worlds!

Couture Fashion Week New York

It’s still winter when I write this, but in New York City, it’s time for the fabulous Haute Couture Spring Fashions at New York Fashion Week! It has become a ritual for all the top designers in the world to display their latest creations.

As previously mentioned it was Dulcy who first videotaped outdoor runway fashions one summer on Long Island, New York. Previously, no one had struck upon her naturally fluid, casual, and informal camera style as a promotional tool for high fashion designers to further worldwide recognition.

Dulcy broadcast her video of the Long Island fashion show on “Reel People Review“ (television show).

News of a recent law passed by a Southern California City Council that bans Pit Bulls (dogs) from residing in their heavily family populated locale. This is an enlightened step forward as more and more horrible incidents of dog bites or worse by this breed of dog are reported on numerous television news reports.

Since I have previously written about the serious nature and risk to humans by Pit Bulls in the past, it is only logical that I now commend that Southern California City for taking action! The question is why anyone would consider this breed of dog as a pet? Yes, Pit Bulls are very cute and adorable as puppies. The trouble is when certain people are not responsible, or deny that mature Pit Bulls have.

Gatsby ImpressionGatsby Impression

Two years ago I created a painting with the subject being 1920’s Long Island, New York, high society. The Equestrian Life is still an important part of life for this northeastern coast community, and featured in “Gatsby Impression“.

May 10, 2013 is the release of F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby movie once again portraying the “Flapper Era”, the 1920's wild booze parties that took place, and the misdeeds which are the things that drama are made of.

“Gatsby Impression” is a very large painting (20 x 30) by Dulcy who in the past couple of years has usually worked her paintings much smaller. Acrylics are used due to the issue of small studio space.

Dulcy Brightman and Simon Baker

Simon Baker, an Australian actor (mentored by Nicole Kidman), is on hit CBS-TV show "The Mentalist", but I met him when he was on another series called "The Guardian". I coached a disabled woman for a part she had as a "Supporting Actress". The producers are very friendly with the disabled community.

THE AUDITION
by Dulcy Brightman

Several years ago, 2004 to be exact, I had the pleasure of coaching an actress who had a supporting role in a popular television series. This was not a totally new position for me as I had written, directed, and produced more than a decade of television shows, but certainly not at the level of the formidable studios I was to visit. So when the parents of this woman asked me if I would step in as a coach, due to their busy schedules, it wasn't a problem, or so I then thought.

This actress had certain disabilities in retaining dialogue so the challenge was on! After several visits to this woman's home I concluded that I would have to repeat my efforts on the day the production company would film, and certainly have several rehearsals prior to the filming date.
