The "California Rose - Series #1" Story
California Rose Series 1Painted in 10 / 2010
8" x 10" - Acrylic on Canvas

You will notice that this painting is primarily an impressionistic representation of roses in blues. Mind you, there is one lonely, lavender rose, and many twisting vines. Lavender is both a color and a scent that has been used in romantic settings over the years. The artist, Dulcy, has remembered that crawling roses are often grown along brick walls exactly because of this quality. The climbing blue, lavender & green, roses in this painting display a very soft and decorative look.

The artist also noticed crawling roses near garages in Los Angeles making it look more like a small guest house. Owners of such garages are pleased when their guests mistake the garage for a guest house! The “Rose Series #1” was painted from what Dulcy remembered is grown on backyard fences, and garages in Sherman Oaks, California, That area, along with many other neighborhoods north of Hollywood, is rather upscale living in the greater Los Angeles area. Guest houses with roses are very much an asset to owners, and have great draw to people buying houses there. Garages are allowed to be used as an extra room or even a rental space in Los Angeles; which is not allowed in other cities. Roses can be seen dripping over fences in beautiful, California.

Roses, not always fragrant, are easily used to enhance properties because they bloom often. Dulcy shows in “Roses - Series #1”, interest in the actual bloom of this delicate looking, but sturdy flower. The rose is a powerful flower attracting honey bees which is good for all the other kinds of flowers in the garden. This painting indicates a fascination of the vines that twist and cross each other when not controlled by gardeners sticks and ties. They wrap around many fences giving many swimming pools and yards increased privacy. Roses in California bloom in winter as well as in summer.
