The John Tracy Clinic / Foundation for the Deaf was established in 1942 by Actors, Spencer Tracy, and Louise Treadwell Tracy. John Tracy was their son who was hearing impaired from birth. His mother dedicated herself to the education of parents of children such as her son, John, who was hearing-impaired.

Mr. Robert Lanthier, President of Reel Cowboys, announced today that tickets are available for their annual, Reel Cowboys Silver Spurs Awards Show to be held on Friday, September 19th, 2014; that will benefit the clinic. Many celebrities and actors will be present in addition to those actors that will be honored.

The first few years of The John Tracy Clinic was solely supported by Spencer Tracy of what was then a small clinic on the USC campus in a 1942 bungalow. The clinic helps young hearing-impaired children then as now.

Barbara F. Hecht, President of the clinic, said “John Tracy was the inspiration of a whole movement to give hope to parents of children with hearing loss. The clinic educates parents who otherwise would not know what to do with non-hearing children.

Stalled Construction Creates Huge Piles of Dirt
May 25th, 2014

Dirt; you are practically born into it when you are a toddler and so close to the ground. Your mother takes pains to wash it from her child’s clothes, brush it off trouser legs, and backside; yet dirt continues to find us.

Once, in a time of summer, I was to spend a weekend holiday in upstate New York. Many have never traveled or lived in the state of New York. They have no idea that the northern parts of the state are substantially less populated than New York City, and have nice, deep, wet dirt, called mud.

What’s really shocking is when I found that some residents of New York City, who have lived there all their lives, had no concept whatsoever that there was a different world that exists outside of their city. They haven't even imagined that you can actually see dirt in abundance in places known as “the Country“, or “the Wide Open Spaces.“ They have to look upon it on construction sites, like the above video shows.

New Yorker’s love their cement sidewalks and tall buildings, which Borough residents in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island refer to as “The City.” Merely mentioning other states, such as Iowa, where tall corn is raised in the vistas of wind swept earth, would draw a blank stare, whenever I happen to talk about our beautiful country. It has always amazed me how little people know about United States Geography?

As I packed for a happy weekend away from the usual grind of work in the city, it felt great that I would be camping on lush, green, grass with dandelions. There would be a fabulous lodge to enjoy three meals a day, conversations with strangers, and a dance on Saturday night. I later learned that this very place had once been a hideout for the American Nazi Party. Shocking! Right? Well, at the time of my visit, I had no idea about the place, but there was a rather strange vibe, now that I think about it.

Well, the weekend came, and I drove out of the city with great anticipation. I was to meet a couple of friends at the lodge and get details on where we were allowed to camp out. There was also an option to go nude around the swimming pool; something I opted out of with gusto.

Everything was going very well, with lovely music playing most of the day to a crowd that seemed to favor the “Hippie” look. There were plenty of beads, jeans, long hair, and hand-holding, as well as alcoholic drinks all day long. My favorite thing was swimming (yes, with a bathing suit on). I was ignoring those that were removing their clothing and going nude in public. It seemed that a great majority of the tourist loved, what I did not in any way believe, that going “natural” was acceptable behavior; can you believe that?

Well, everything was going well, as the tent had been secured the first night of camping. In fact, inside the tent was very cozy from the soft grass under our sleeping bags. All along, I would have been much more comfortable in a hotel, because going to an out-house, a wooden room with a toilet, wasn’t my idea of a vacation weekend,

Then it happened. Heavy Canadian air pushed clouds toward our encampment. Soon, there was rain falling that was so abundant, that even the trench I’d dug around the tent was overflowing into our bedroom tent at night; there was no stopping it. The dirt soon became mud, and lots of it. So much so, that the mud started rushing down the hill where once you could see only grass. My friends were laughing, and I was completely unhappy. So I packed up quickly, got in my car, and went back to "The City”, where I spent the warm and cozy rest of my weekend.

The earth had sent its dirt message to me; this was a place that would never be good. Years later, the lodge burned to the ground.

I call that Karma.
